Box office: Dilwale ahead but Bajirao Mastani catching up fast

Riding on Shah Rukh Khan’s innovative marketing skills, Dilwale opened in nearly 4000 screens, while Bajirao Mastani occupied about 3000 screens.

The box office battle between Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dilwale and Ranveer Singh’s Bajirao Mastani is not as one sided as trade pundits predicted earlier.

In fact, Bajirao Mastani is fast catching up with Dilwale in terms of total collection. While Dilwale grossed Rs 41.09 crore, Bajirao Mastani was not too far behind with Rs 28.32 crore in the first two days of their release. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures.

Dilwale was promoted as the comeback film of the Shah Rukh-Kajol pair while Bajirao Mastani relied on its grandeur. Later, a positive word of mouth also helped Bajirao Mastani vis-a-vis Dilwale.

Dilwale also has Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in important roles. Similarly, Bajirao Mastani features Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in other pivotal roles.
