Broadway calling for Vishal Bhardwaj, Mira Nair
Vishal Bhardwaj and Mira Nair team up for a stage adaptation of Monsoon Wedding; rehearsals for the musical are on in full swing in New York.
He is fresh off Haider’s success. But instead of basking in the limelight — especially with awards season getting in top gear — film-maker Vishal Bhardwaj has flown to USA, and has started work on his next project — Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding musical that will soon make it’s Broadway debut.

"Yes, Vishal sir, along with Rekhaji (Bhardwaj; his wife) is in the US. Although we aren’t really aware of the exact purposes of his visit (apparently, he is in the US for a personal reason too), he has met Miraji, who has started work on the musical adaptation of her film. In fact, Vishal sir has been part of the creative force. Right now, the first round of rehearsals is on, and the stage version will open next year," says an insider.
Apparently, for the musical, Bhardwaj has created 12 songs. The readings of the adaptation are reportedly being helmed by Mira along with Mary-Mitchell Campbell as the musical director.
Last year, Meera told PTI, "The Monsoon Wedding adaptation is a big thing for me. The movie was loved by many. I am working with Vishal and it’s my version just like it was in the movie. The stage is going to be spectacular."
