Actor Deepika Padukone represented India at the recent Met Gala 2019 on Monday along with actor Priyanka Chopra. While Priyanka brought her husband and singer Nick Jonas as her date to the event, fans were sad that Deepika had to go solo, without her very fashionable husband, actor Ranveer Singh. Many fans even pointed how Ranveer was the one person who deserved to be at the gala the most, considering how he is the king of camp in India, something even Deepika agrees with.
In a new video, Vogue tags along with Deepika to her dress fitting with designer Zac Posen and then to her make-up and hair session hours before the gala. While getting ready, Deepika shows the camera a picture shared on Instagram by Ranveer. He is seen in a super colourful pair of shorts and shirt. “Hubby!” she exclaims as she spots his pic on her phone. “That’s him. Can you see? He has this crazy sense of dressing. I think he would be actually a perfect fit for tonight’s theme. He’s the one person who would do 100% justice to the theme. But I am representing him,” she said.
The cameraperson then asked her how the two met. “Film set romance,” she tells her. “We dated for six years before we got married,” she added. Deepika and Ranveer got married in Italy in November last year.

This year’s theme at the Met Gala was Camp: Notes on Fashion, inspired by Susan Sontag’s by a seminal 1964 essay by Susan Sontag in which she describes the phenomenon as something that shan’t be talked about: “To talk about Camp is therefore to betray it.” The theme was the basis for the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition.
This was Deepika’s third outing at the event. She made her debut at the gala in 2017 in a simple Tommy Hilfiger white slip-dress. Last year, she stunned in an elegant red Prabal Gurung gown matched with red heels.
