According to a report in DNA, Gulzar got angry with Bhagat when he introduced the poet at an event saying, “I have really liked the song Kajra Re which was penned by Gulzar-saab. It was a good piece of poetry.”

The veteran writer-filmmaker was apparently miffed at it, and asked Bhagat to tell him the meaning of two lines from the song: “Teri baaton mein kimaam ki khushboo hai, Tera aana bhi garmiyon ki loo hai”. Gulzar added: “Chetan, I am glad that an author like you has liked the song. But I don’t think you have understood the poetry that you are trying to talk about here.”

Chetan Bhagat was left speechless, but Gulzar didn’t stop. “Please don’t say things you don’t know about. Comment about things you know,” he added.
