Gold box office collection on Thursday saw a dip and Akshay Kumar film is estimated to have earned around Rs 8 crore.

Gold box office collection on day two was all about troughs after seeing a blockbuster opening on Independence Day. However, neither the film’s star Akshay Kumar nor the trade is too perturbed as the dip was expected, with Thursday being a working day. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Gold box office collection on Thursday is estimated to be between Rs 8 crore. On Wednesday, the Akshay Kumar film earned Rs 25.25 crore, which is highest ever for the actor.

According to Taran, Gold is should regain momentum on from Friday. Interestingly, John Abraham’s film Satyameva Jayate is earned Rs 7.9 crore on Thursday that is only a shade less than Gold. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the dip in Gold earnings, “After a big holiday [#IndependenceDay] on Wed, it was the regular working day on Thu... #Gold and #SatyamevaJayate took a hit on Day 2, since biz, generally, witnesses a decline after a holiday... Growth in biz is most crucial at this stage [Fri to Sun]...”

He also predicted that if Gold and Satyameva Jayate can capitalise on their solid beginning, Akshay Kumar and John Abraham can post solid lifetime totals. “A *5-day extended opening weekend* is a rarity... If #Gold and #SatyamevaJayate manage to cement their status by recording solid numbers over the next few days, an impressive lifetime total will be on the cards... It’s a wait and watch situation right now,” he wrote.

Directed by Reema Kagti, Gold stars Amit Sadh, Mouni Roy, Vineet Singh and Kunal Kapoor. The film comes after Akshay’s string of hits in the last two years and is expected to cement his position further.

Gold clashed with John’s Satyameva Jayate -- the pair has earlier worked together in films such as Garam Masala, Desi Boyz and Housefull 2. Akshay said about the Gold and Satyameva Jayate clash, “We can release our film together on any occasion, be it Eid, Diwali or Christmas as we all are friends.”
