I’m bored of link-ups: Shahid Kapoor
Shahid Kapoor on his alleged relationships, career and why he’s the latest actor to play a copbollywood Updated: Aug 01, 2013 16:52 IST
The number of women Shahid Kapoor is rumoured to have been seeing could rival the number of hit films against his name. Here, he reacts to all those link-ups, and accepts that professionally, this could be the make-or-break phase of his career.
Your name has been romantically linked to several actresses. Who are you actually dating?
I’m bored of these link-ups. I’m written about even if I’m going for coffee, for a movie or if I’m just seen driving around with somebody. Aise thodi hota hai (It doesn’t work that way). Initially, I’d think about how my parents would react, but I’ve been in the industry for 10 years now — it’s a professional hazard.
Sources say you have been Priyanka Chopra’s strength after her father’s demise.
I won’t react. It is unnecessary to talk about my equation with Priyanka.
It’s being said that your upcoming films will decide your place in the industry.
Yes. It’s a crucial stage for me. I have seen successful and unsuccessful periods. And I feel that I have reached a point where I need to prove myself. The success of my
upcoming films is very important at this phase of my career.
Are you more selective about scripts now?
Scripts have become secondary for me; who I’m working with is more important. Filmmaking is an organic process. You can write a script, but they are just words. It is the directors who can turn things around. I want to work with good directors.
You’re playing a cop in Phata Poster Nikhla Hero. Every other actor seems to have done that already.
Every actor has explored it. We have seen a lot of films about cops, but this is about a fake cop. That is what excited me. He comes out of posters like a hero, but he gets stuck in tricky situations.
Was it your idea to get Nargis Fakhri on board?
The decision was taken by Rajkumar Santoshi (director) and Ramesh Taurani (producer). As an actor, I don’t take these decisions. A stage song in the film required a new face. They thought Nargis, who has never done something like this before, would be fresh for the audience.
