Remember Force (2011)? John Abraham had bulked up to play the no-nonsense narcotics officer for Nishikanth Kamath’s action film. But around the same time, when he was supposed to shoot for Abbas-Mustan’s next, Race 2, the director duo wanted him to cut the bulk and acquire a much leaner look. As a result, John has been busy losing the ripped body that he built up.

“Yes, John was quite muscular at that time but we told him that his character in our film doesn’t require such a body. So, he lost all the bulk. And although he has worked hard on his body with a South African boxing champion, we haven’t cashed in on it by going for unnecessary exposure,” says Abbas.

Also, it’s interesting to note that John was approached for Akshaye Khanna’s role in the original Race (2008). “But John had already committed his dates for his other projects, so could not do the movie. Plus, we had also blocked dates with other actors for that film. But he had told us that he would work with us whenever there was an opportunity next. So that’s how Race 2 has happened with John,” adds Abbas.
