Bollywood producer and director Karan Johar was criticised on Monday by a Twitter user for promoting nepotism in the film industry once again with his rumoured new film, Dostana 2. In his reply, Karan did not only refute the rumours of a sequel but also let everyone know he is no mood of being dragged into a debate on nepotism.

“Hello!!! All news circulating about DOSTANA 2 is untrue!!! Lots of speculation which is entirely baseless!!!,” he wrote in a tweet. Twitter user ‘God of Thunder’ wrote in their tweet, “Karan Johar can win Gold medal in launching Start Kids.......#Dostana2 #nepotism #KaranJohar.”

Karan decided to not take the criticism lying down and replied, “And you will win the Bronze for Bulls**t!”

The film Dostana featured Priyanka Chopra, John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan in the lead roles. Rumours suggested that Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra had been roped in for the sequel.

The debate around Karan’s contribution to propagating nepotism in the industry began raging when Kangana Ranaut talked about it on his talk show, Koffee With Karan. While Kangana attacked Karan on his chat show, calling him the “flag-bearer of nepotism” someone who is “snooty and completely intolerant to outsiders” and accused him of running a “movie mafia”, Karan hit back at the Queen actor while talking at the London School of Economics and said, “She was my guest and I had to hear what she had to say. She has a right to have an opinion. When she says ‘Flag bearer of Nepotism’, I just want to say to her, I am glad she knows what it all means. I don’t think she has understood the entire meaning of the term.”

The incident sparked a row about nepotism in the industry with many calling it unfair and others, justifying it.

Karan’s upcoming projects include Kalank, Brahmastra, Student of the Year 2 and Takht.
