Sohail Khan’s car crushes woman to death, dad Salim says it’s unfair to target the family

Salman Khan and his brothers are making news for the wrong reasons again, and their dad, veteran writer Salim, says they are under fire only because of their celebrity status. Salim is upset that instead of finding out the whereabouts of the 66-year-old woman who was mowed down by son Sohail’s car on Monday night in Bandra, Mumbai, the focus is more on his family and whether they were inside the car when the mishap occurred.

"It was most unfortunate, the woman suddenly came in front of the vehicle and fell. The driver (Dhananjay Pimpale) immediately applied the brakes and reported the matter to the police," said Salim while the brothers remained unavailable for comment.

At the time of going to press, Pimpale, who tested negative for alcohol, had been booked by Mumbai police but let off on bail. The golden Lexus involved in the accident is registered in the name of Arbaaz, but youngest brother Sohail was the primary user. Even as Pimpale confessed to being at the wheel, speculations were rife that it was Sohail in the driver’s seat.

When we contacted Bandra police, an official said, “We’ve called Arbaaz for enquiry.”

A decade ago, Salman, too, had rammed his car into three people who were sleeping on the footpath, crushing one to death.

The latest incident comes at a time when Salman is trying to play Good Samaritan for the release of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian who was mistakenly imprisoned by Pakistan and has served 20 years in jail. Sarabjit’s sister and daughters met him on the sets of Dabangg 2 on Sunday.

Salman on NATO’s radar
There’s more. In another incident, Salman Khan was mistaken for a troublemaker by none other than the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).

The incident occurred when the actor was shooting a gun chase in Zakho (on the Syria-Iraq-Turkey border), considered to be a volatile and sensitive area, for Kabir Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger.

A source from the unit claims that while shooting the action sequences, the film’s unit were told to stay put for a couple of hours by the NATO forces, and kept under close surveillance.

The official spokesperson of the film confirms, “Salman, along with 40 crew members, came under the radar of the NATO forces in the area while shooting a gun chase and some firing sequences for the film.”
