The film is being promoted as erotica, but actor Rahul Bagga says the movie is about a writer's life - a writer who could not pursue his dreams and soon learnt to love what he started doing - writing porn.

Bagga, who has starred in Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurranna and TV series Powder, insists that Mastram writer Rajaram - the character he plays -- is a normal person who had dreams he could not pursue. The writer is not someone who objectifies women and is not a lecherous man, he adds.

"We as a society need to accept the existence of porn writing. The entire crew of Mastram wins if people watch the movie with their families because it talks about a person's life and is not erotica," Rahul further said.

Talking about his 'preparation' for the role, Rahul Bagga said, "I was aware of Mastram and had read around 2,500 Mastram books before signing up for the film. There wasn't really much on that front that I had to prepare."

Directed by

Akhilesh Jaiswal

, co-writer of Gangs of Wasseypur, Mastram hits theatres on May 9.
