Narendra Modi lauds Shashi Kapoor on getting Dadasaheb Phalke

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated Bollywood star Shashi Kapoor on being conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The veteran actor was awarded at a star-studded event on Sunday in Mumbai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated Bollywood star of yesteryears Shashi Kapoor on being conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

"It was wonderful seeing the versatile and much admired Shashi Kapoor-ji being presented the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Congratulations to him," the prime minister tweeted.

The 77-year-old Shashi Kapoor was on Sunday conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honour in Indian cinema, by information and broadcasting minister Arun Jaitley at the iconic Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai.

The event was attended by the entire Kapoor family besides several celebrities from the film industry. Spotted at the event were actors Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Karisma Kapoor, among others.

The actor could not travel to New Delhi when the National Awards were presented by President Pranab Mukherjee on May 3, because of ill health. Hence, he was awarded at the function in suburban Mumbai.
