Interestingly, the film will be directed by the veteran actor’s elder son Imaad, who will also be seen in a pivotal role in Mira Nair’s Reluctant Fundamentalist. Talking about his directorial venture, Imaad says, “I can’t say much about it yet, but it will be very rooted, and retain the flavour of the kind of intimate, independent cinema that I have always wanted to make. I am collaborating with a couple of people; there are some interesting ideas and characters which I would have my brother and father play.”

This is the first time the three actors are coming together, but Imaad has no regrets of not being able to share screen space with them before. “We work together in theatre. People have approached us in the past, but none of their proposals were up to the mark. I think it’s good that it hasn’t happened because if it does, we have to make sure that it’s worth the idea,” says Imaad.

Ask him if he has any inclination towards pure commercial cinema as well and he says, “The boundary between Bollywood masala movies and art films has become quite blurry now. A director with a vision is now getting budgets that masala movies would get before. Production values of our films are getting lot better. So now it’s all about the film being good or bad.”
