Director Shoojit Sircar seems to be in no mood to come up with a sequel to his hit comedy Vicky Donor. “I have no plans for the sequel at the moment. I haven’t thought about it yet,” says Sircar.
Based on the concept of sperm donation and infertility, the film was received with an overwhelming response for its content and performances by actors Ayushmann Khurrana, Yami Gautam and Annu Kapoor. John Abraham’s debut production made at a shoe-string budget of Rs 5 crore has made over Rs 30 crore so far since its release on April 20.
Reports soon followed that the makers are contemplating a sequel to the same. Ram Mirchandani of Rampage Motion Pictures, co-producer of the film, was quoted as saying, “Yes, we are contemplating a sequel, not because we wish to capitalise on its popularity, but because a film like Vicky Donor is not merely a film, it’s a movement.”
Co-producer Ronnie Lahiri of Rising Sun Films was also quoted with similar sentiments. “A sequel is in the pipeline...director Shoojit Sircar and writer Juhi Chaturvedi are brainstorming on what issue we need to tackle next.”
However, Sircar is astonished. “I don’t know where and on what basis are these people saying such things!” he says.
