Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj just can’t stop raving about Priyanka Chopra for her lethal performance in his latest outing 7 Khoon Maaf. “Priyanka has done a really good job in the film. I wish and pray she does get a national award because this is one of the best performances I’ve seen. She deserves not just a national award but all the awards,” says the elated filmmaker.

The 50-year-old is so much in awe of Priyanka, who won a national award for her performance in Fashion, that he now wants to rope her in for a dedicated musical. “I’d love to make a musical with Priyanka where she would be singing all her songs. I haven’t thought of an idea yet but I’d love to because she is a really good singer,” he says, quickly adding, “but Priyanka doesn’t sing in 7 Khoon Maaf.”

Despite the director’s praise for the actor, Piggy Chops wasn’t the first choice for the murderous femme fatale’s character.

“I didn’t have Priyanka in mind but once I worked with her, I decided she would be the best choice because I saw her passion and commitment towards her work during Kaminey. She is a very hard working and intelligent girl and I thought she was the right person for Susanna,” says the versatile filmmaker and music composer. With seven marriages, is’nt the movie promoting infidelity? “Not really because it has been written by a great literary master like Ruskin Bond and he will not do anything that will affect the society in any manner,” he clarifies.

“And the premise is so intriguing and inviting that you can rack your brains before you see it. That is the USP of the film,” winks the self-confessed Quentin Tarantino fan.

Literary fascination
Literature offers you more layers. It gives a glimpse into the human psyche, which is much deeper than the usual self.

Directing Ruskin Bond
It’s just a cameo, only two scenes but you’ll have to see and realise that. He might be one of the husbands. Who knows? He may be one.

In Annu Kapoor’s story there was never supposed to be a kiss. Russian folk song Kalinka, on which the Darling song is based, has been given credit in the CDs of the film. And we didn’t ask John (Abraham) to promote the film.

I don’t think I’ll ever act. I am a very camera conscious person. I am very good behind the camera and not in front of it.

Future projects
I’ll direct a film later this year but I’m confused and contemplating on one or two subjects. Dream Sequence is on hold because we couldn’t do the correct casting and no there is no Hamlet adaptation with Hrithik (Roshan).
