Rana Daggubati: My need to tell good stories will never be confined to just acting

Actor Rana Daggubati, aka Bhallala Deva of Baahubali, says that right from the beginning of his film career, he has done different things

Actor Rana Daggubati is basking in the glory of his recent blockbuster Baahubali, which has broken all records at the box office. However, he feels that he is not confined to telling good stories only through the medium of acting.

“I used to run a visual effects company before I became an actor and worked on almost 80 films. I have a need to tell stories, and different kind of stories. And it’s not only about me acting; I like to bring up the best kind of content and work with new directors,” says Daggubati, who has also produced the National Award-winning Telugu film Bommalata and has also been a visual effects producer. His work in Bollywood has been in films such as Dum Maaro Dum (2011) and Baby (2015).

Does the 32-year-old actor believe in the concept of having an alternative career? “This doesn’t apply to me because I started my journey in cinema doing different things. I was never confined to just acting. I don’t do many films but take a limited number of films and do spectacular films like Baahubali, which help me bring the best content to the audience,” says Daggubati.

After the success of the Baahubali franchise, the Telugu and Tamil film industries seem to be more confident about coming up with spectacular films. Daggubati feels that there’s always one film that needs to prove it to others that everyone is ready for this kind of cinema.

“You always need one good film to do well and the trend begins. Baahubali was a very expensive film, and till the time people didn’t know that the market is ready for such films, they were never going to be confident about making such films. Baahubali has clearly proved that the market is ready for bigger cinema like this. This is why now filmmakers will step forward and make such films,” says the actor.
