John Abraham’s Independence Day offering, Satyameva Jayate opened to a good box office collection.

John Abraham may be looking at one of the biggest hits of his acting career with his latest movie, Satyameva Jayate, which has earned Rs 20 crore in the first day of its release.

John Abraham and Manoj Baypayee are two men at loggerheads in Satyameva Jayate.

Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures on Thursday morning, posting: “#SatyamevaJayate springs a BIG SURPRISE... Plexes are good, but single screens are ROCKING... Fri Rs 20.52 cr. India biz.” It also made its way to the list of the year’s biggest first day openers.

Meanwhile, Independence Day 2018’s other big Bollywood release, Akshay Kumar’s Gold, still emerged the big winner. It earned about Rs 25 crore in one day. Taran wrote in an earlier tweet that the two movie have made Rs 45 crore between themselves. “The BIG HOLIDAY [#IndependenceDay] results in BIG NUMBERS at the BO... Both, #Gold and #SatyamevaJayate have TERRIFIC Day 1... Both, Akshay and John record their HIGHEST *Day 1* biz... The *combined* total is approx 45 cr [+/-], which is HUMONGOUS... Yesss, BO is on (fire),” he tweeted.

Satyameva Jayate is directed by Milap Milan Zaveri of Mastizaade. In the film, John plays a vigilante who kills corrupt policemen mercilessly and Manoj Bajpayee is the officer who shall bring him to justice. The film opened to mixed reviews but the audience certainly seems to have loved the movie.

Rohan Naahar of HT wrote in his review, “Satyameva Jayate is near-unwatchable. It is a torturous experience; a deeply irresponsible, phony and tone-deaf waste of time, a shameful low for everyone involved.”
