Sometimes, a fan’s support can go a long way. That’s something Sonam Kapoor could vouch for. After all, one of her admirers in Delhi/NCR made a special exception to let her drive his vintage Mini Cooper.

The Players team had organised a promotional event at a mall in Noida. And for the event, they wanted Sonam to make a grand entry in the car model, which has been featured extensively in the film. They struck up a major search for the right car, and finally found Noida resident Ankit Shrivastav, who owned a vintage model.

After finding out that the leading lady was going to be behind the wheel, Ankit agreed to let her into the driver’s seat. “Ankit didn’t even charge money for letting us use his vintage car. He was just happy that Sonam was personally driving it,” says a member of the organising team.

Anil Kapoor’s daughter finally drove the car from the mall’s parking lot to the main entrance.

When contacted, Sonam laughs about the experience and adds, “It was super. Driving the Cooper gives you the feeling of being in a racecar. But the good thing is that it’s also compact enough to drive through traffic snarls.”

Meanwhile, Sonam — who plays Naina Braganza in Abbas-Mustan’s thriller — is elated about her action-packed role. “Isn’t it good that girls are doing stunts? I think the female roles in Players are more action-packed than the boys'. We had Allan Amin as the action director and he knows how to make stunts look cool and slick,” she smiles.

Players, an official remake of the Hollywood hit, The Italian Job (1969, 2003), releases this Friday. Besides Sonam, the film also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Bobby Deol.
