Student of the Year 2 box office day 3: Tiger Shroff’s film earns ₹38.83 cr, actor parties with Tara Sutaria, Ananya Panday

Student of the Year 2 box office collection over the first weekend was a shade less than 40 crore as the film’s team -- Tiger Shroff, Tara Sutaria and Ananya Panday -- was seen celebrating .

Karan Johar’s latest production venture, Student of the Year 2, continued to have an average run at the ticket windows and has collected 38.83 crore at the box office after the first weekend. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the box office collection of the Tiger Shroff-Tara Sutaria-Ananya Panday film, “Student Of The Year 2 has a decent weekend, but when compared to Tiger Shroff’s earlier releases [data follows], the numbers should’ve been higher than #Baaghi [2016] at least... #SOTY2 has an important task ahead: It needs to maintain the pace on weekdays.”

He reported that the film has earned 38.83 crore and was affected by polling in certain parts of India as well as the finals of Indian Premiere League 2019. “StudentOfTheYear2 saw limited growth on Day 2, while the sixth phase of polling [cinemas were shut till evening] + #IPL2019Final [evening onwards] affected its biz on Day 3... Fri 12.06 cr, Sat 14.02 cr, Sun 12.75 cr. Total: 38.83 cr. India biz. #SOTY2,” he wrote.

He also said that the film enjoys a short window at the box office with Ajay Devgn’s De De Pyar De and Hollywood biggie John Wick coming out next week. “Tiger Shroff versus Tiger Shroff... Top 3 *opening weekend* biz... 2016: #Baaghi 38.58 cr, 2018: #Baaghi2 73.10 cr, 2019: #SOTY2 38.83 cr. #SOTY2 faces two major films on Fri - #DeDePyaarDe and #JohnWick: Chapter 3... Biz on weekdays is extremely crucial. India biz.”

Meanwhile, Student of the Year 2 team had a private bash in Mumbai to celebrate the film’s success and director Punit Malhotra’s birthday.

After a decent opening of 12 crore, the collections for Student of the Year 2 soared a bit to 14 crore. The movie, nonetheless, broke a few records at the box office - it is fifth highest Bollywood opener for 2019. Alia Bhatt-Varun Dhawan-starrer Kalank tops the list with 21.60 crore while Akshay Kumar’s Kesari comes a close second with 21.06 crore. Alia’s Gully Boy and Ajay Devgn’s Total Dhamaal follow with opening collections of 19.40 cr and 16 cr, respectively.

Student of the Year 2 is also Tiger’s second biggest opener after Baaghi 2 and third highest weekend opener. The film starring Shraddha Kapoor, opened at 25 crore.

Student of the Year 2 became part of online memes and jokes ever since the first trailer dropped. The actors reacted positively to it all as Tiger even claimed his favourite meme was one where he and Tara appear as superheroes.

Student of the Year 2 is a sequel to Karan Johar’s 2012 directorial that launched the careers of David Dhawan’s son Varun Dhawan, Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra.
