Reports claim that Varun Dhawan has been approached to essay the role of CID officer in the remake of Dev Anand's 2006 hit Johny Mera Naam.

In 2006, David Dhawan was asked to direct the remake of late actor Dev Anand’s 1970 hit, Johny Mera Naam. The film was supposed to be produced by Suniel Shetty and Shabbir Boxwalla. In fact, there were also talks of Abhishek Bachchan reprising Anand’s role of the undercover CID officer in the film.

However, plans of the remake fell through at that time. Now, after almost a decade, producer Gulshan Rai’s son, Rajiv Rai, has decided to remake Johnny Mera Naam with Shabbir.

The remake will mark Rajiv’s return to direction. He has directed blockbusters like Tridev (1989), Vishwatma (1992), Mohra (1994) and Gupt (1997). Shabbir and the director have apparently decided to approach Varun Dhawan for the lead role in the film.
