Vishal Bhardwaj to direct music videos
Ishqiya filmmaker decides to design visuals for his compositions for first co-production with Ekta Kapoorbollywood Updated: May 12, 2012 14:43 IST
Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, producer Ekta Kapoor and actor Emraan Hashmi coming together in Ek Thi Daayan (ETD) was big news in itself. But now, Vishal plans to further enhance his co-production. Apart from composing music for the film, he will be directing the song sequences too.ETD is a supernatural mystery thriller, directed by debutant Kannan Iyer, Vishal’s former assistant. “Vishal and Emraan coming together for the first time means a musical extravaganza.
We are delighted that he is actually shooting the songs himself,” says Tanuj Garag, CEO Balaji Motion Pictures. In his other productions, Vishal usually is involved in writing the screenplay, dialogue and music compositions, but ETD will be the first time he is directing just a segment of the film.
“Emraan’s movies are known for hit music, while Vishal’s compositions are noted for quality,” adds Tanuj, saying, “Everyone at Balaji is thrilled that Vishal is taking so much interest in directing and choreographing the songs in ETD.” Tanuj reveals that it was Vishal’s idea to shoot the songs. The film will have at least four songs, but the composer-director is working on two more. It hasn’t been confirmed yet if they will be included in the movie.
Tanuj insists that the songs will be combinations of various genres, and not the stereotypical romance songs. While Vishal has already begun composing the melodies, Emraan, who has a good sense of music, hasn’t weighed in with his opinions. “Emraan trusts the filmmakers he works with and is the least interfering actor around.
No doubt, he is thrilled to have Vishal’s music in his film,” says a source close to Emraan. Emraan is also reportedly excited to have three leading ladies acting opposite him in the film, a first for the ‘serial kisser’. While ETD will be his first film with Konkana Sen Sharma and Huma Qureshi (who will make her debut in Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs Of Wasseypur), it will mark the second time Emraan pairs with Kalki Koechlin, after director Dibakar Banerjee’s upcoming flick, Shanghai.
