Weighting and watching

The thing that I love about holidays is that build up, the excitement, the holiday wait; but post-holiday is when reality hits you, a reality known as holiday weight.

I was back to business though, following up on audition calls and pending meetings. A certain sports channel has been interested in auditioning me and called while I was away. While I wasn’t gung ho about anchoring with the fear of missing out on a film offer earlier, I now had a fresh and more realistic approach towards work deciding to go with the flow, grab good opportunities that come my way before youth fades. The key is to think less and do more. Just do it !

I went in for the audition with an open mind. The studio was at Malad, and was in a snazzy complex that seemed like a cool place to work at, if I got the job, that is. I was escorted to the green room for make-up and hair, and handed the script and served a cup of coffee. I quite liked the pampering and exclusivity, unlike most auditions where we dhakke khao (get pushed around).

I was mentally prepared and sailed through the process, smiling, pausing and speaking with confidence. Reading out anchor links flashed by the teleprompter was too easy to be true! I walked out pretty pleased with myself, leaving the result to destiny. Que Sera Sera.

Acting fresh

I landed up at a Pears audition, waiting in a queue of young mom type girls and super cute kids. After an hour and a half of waiting though, the kids didn’t seem that cute anymore, after their display of stubborn moodiness and weepy wailing. Little Rascals.

I also auditioned for a Taaza Tea ad this week, which was basically the typical stuff; transforming from tired to wired post that sip of imaginary tea. The performances were worth watching with girls going completely over the top OTT.

I got home and did a bit of homework, recording the same shot on my handycam. Watching the variations made me realise OTT sh** really works! Underplaying stuff like this can make a performance appear lacking in energy.

I’ve realised that being fresh and energetic comes from clearing the clutter from the space between your ears, not holding on to perceptions or stressing about results; thinking less and doing more. Enjoying the journey and not worrying about the end result helps me function better. After a productive week of running around, it’s time now for me to hit the gym and beat that nasty holiday bulge!
