Art lovers, here are five books that’ll get you excited for November:
Lucian Freud: Closer: UBS Art Collection by Richard Cork and Anders Kold
Considered one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, Lucien Freud (grandson of Sigmund Freud) currently has an exhibition dedicated to 50 of his pieces at the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin. To accompany the exhibition, art writer Richard Cork and curator Anders Kold have collaborated to produce a collection of annotated etchings from the latter stages of his life.
Louise Bourgeois: An Unfolding Portrait by Deborah Wye
Published alongside an exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, this catalogue examines the famous sculptor’s less-famous prints and illustrations. Over 270 examples of her work give key insight into Bourgeois’ overall creative process, guided by author Deborah Wye - former curator at MoMA for 31 years.
Oscar Murillo by Emma Enderby and Anna Schneider
This publication is the first of the Colombian-born artist’s career to date. Now recognised as one of this generation’s most influential artists, Murillo is currently showing his pieces at a solo exhibition at Haus der Kunst in Munich. The accompanying publication is ideal for anyone looking for insight into Murillo’s large-scale paintings.
Calder: The Conquest of Time: The Early Years: 1898-1940 by Jed Perl
The very first full-length biography of one of America’s most well-known sculptors, Calder: The Conquest of Time contains scores of letters, interviews and papers, many never-before-seen, as well as some excellent writing by the art critic and author Jed Perl.
Vincent Sardon: The Stampographer by the artist
Sardon’s work is subversive, sardonic and anarchic. This beautiful hardcover contains the best examples of his revolutionary and controversial work, and introduces the contemporary French artist to an English-speaking audience. This book will be released on November 21, 2017.
