Book: Sinking, Not Swimming.
Author: Nalini Rajan
Publisher: Penguin
Price: R299

With more than a dozen characters narrating their side of the story, you will definitely identify with Nalini Rajan’s novel’s title. For the most part, the reader feels like he’s sinking in the maze of characters and not swimming!

Notwithstanding the family tree chart at the beginning of the novel, you will be at sea as to who’s who in the extended Tamil family. Rajan successfully evokes the ethos of a greedy Tamil family. But that’s all. The characters are half-baked, and fail to touch your heart.

The verdict: Trash
