The problem is that just because you don't know the existence of something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Considering that most 'best books of...' lists end up pretending that nothing worthwhile exists outside books written or translated into English — and this is understandable, considering most of us are unable to read a word, let alone a book, in any non-English language — we thought we'll ask the experts. So here we have five masterful and popular writers in five non-English Indian languages giving their list of best books of the last decade.
We hope this list will generate a debate about some contemporary Hindi, Bengali, Malayalam, Marathi and Tamil writers (not to mention writers in other languages) being left out. What you can't say any more is that all the good books are solely the ones you know of or have read.
