Participating in a two-day 'Middle East Symposium 2005' which concluded in London on Wednesday, Sarosh Zaiwalla, a leading lawyer in arbitration matters, said, "In my view China is not to be feared but to be welcomed as a friend."
He said China should be perceived as a "balancing partner."
According to him, Chinese approach to profits is "modest and practical". As a result, he said, "they will keep the price of the products low which in turn will add to the competition with western businesses resulting in benefit for the local Middle East customers."
Zaiwalla, an Indian-origin lawyer, has represented many Chinese state corporations in the arbitration suits.
