Germany has offered India assistance to develop a satellite-based tolling system. If India accepts the offer, long queues of vehicles lined up at polling booths may become a thing of the past.

Electronic tolling is part of India's proposed National Framework on Intelligent Transport Systems that is being prepared by the Ministry of Urban Development.
“Since 2005, we have a satellite-based tolling system. All highways and trunk roads are incorporated. Every vehicle on the road has an on-board unit linked with a satellite. This system can collect toll and manage traffic flows,” German Minister for Transport, Building and Urban Affairs Wolfgang Tiefensee said.
