Mobile telecoms equipment firm Nokia Siemens Networks has won a contract to upgrade the network of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), the Finnish-German joint venture said on Wednesday.

The modernisation would raise the quality and speed of high-data applications, with the first step in the project being to introduce 800,000 new high-speed connections, Nokia Siemens Networks said in a statement.
BSNL will install 6 million connections with the option of an additional 3 million in the next three years.
The agreement includes installation as well as training and maintenance, the networks firm said, without disclosing financial details.
