NTPC net up 30%

Led by record capacity addition, India's largest power producer NTPC on Friday posted a 29.6% year-on-year jump in its net profit at Rs. 3,142.4 crore for the second quarter ended September. HT reports

Led by record capacity addition, India's largest power producer NTPC on Friday posted a 29.6% year-on-year jump in its net profit at Rs. 3,142.4 crore for the second quarter ended September.

The company reported net profit of Rs. 2,424.1 crore in the same period a year ago.

At present, NTPC has an installed generation capacity of 39,174 MW.

In the first half year of the financial year 2012-13, NTPC has declared a 2,820 MW capacity addition, which is highest ever by the company in a period of six month.

NTPC's net sales rose by 4.8% to Rs. 16119.7 crore in the quarter from Rs. 15,377.5 crore during the same period a year ago.

Net sales also included Rs. 1,023.7 crore from orders issued by the power regulator, CERC, in 2011.

For the six months ended September 2012, NTPC's net profit went up to Rs. 5,641 crore from Rs. 4,499.9 crore in the year-ago period.

Shares of NTPC closed marginally low at Rs. 169 in on the BSE on Friday.
