Sensex ends at new high of 15,794.92

The BSE benchmark Sensex climbs over 62 points to close at record high of 15,794.92 on the back of buying by funds in heavy-weight stocks.

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex climbed over 62 points to close at record high of 15,794.92 on Tuesday on the back of buying by funds in heavy-weight stocks, particularly in capital goods, IT and PSU sectors.

The BSE 30-share Sensex, which had gathered over 166 points on Monday, rose by another 62.75 points to settle at the new peak. Earlier, it touched an intra-session high of 15,868.85 points.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty gained 1.40 points at 4,620.75. It also touched a new intra-day peak of 4,647.95 points and low of 4,609.75.

Market observers said buying activity remained centred around stocks of engineering, capital goods and construction companies on expectations that first quarter growth will be strong.
