Sensex gains 245 points at closing

The Sensex goes up 245.37 points at 20,827.45 on Friday on the back of banking and refinery stocks gaining substantial ground.

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex ended higher by nearly 245 points on on buying by funds following reports of encouraging third quarter results by blue-chip companies.

The Sensex, which fell by 287 points on Thursday, went up 245.37 points at 20,827.45 on Friday on the back of banking and refinery stocks gaining substantial ground.

Similarly, the National Stock Exchange's Nifty rose by 43.05 points to 6,200.10 as heavy-weights like Reliance Industries, Infosys, Satyam and Tata Steel traded higher.

The software major Infosys which posted 25.22 per cent increase in consolidated net profit at Rs 1,231 crore for the quarter ended December 31, was down by 1.38 per cent.
