Supreme Court stays Sterlite plant closure, shares up

The Supreme Court today stayed a lower court order to close Sterlite Industries' copper smelter in Tuticorin, television channels said.

The Supreme Court on Friday stayed a lower court order to close Sterlite Industries' copper smelter in Tuticorin, television channels said.

Shares in Sterlite, a metal producing unit of London-listed Vedanta Resources, rose nearly 6 per cent to 176.75 rupees, while the main stock index was up 1.6 per cent.
