Students at PEC alleged that in January they were told to register for the internship programme by February 17.

However, in its meeting held on January 21, the PEC senate set the deadline as January 25 and said that those failing to get registered would have to pay a late fee of `5,000.

The institute, in a fresh notice issued on February 3 said that the last date for submission of the forms for the programme was advanced from February 25 to January 17. The notice further stated that those who registered after that would have to deposit a late fee of `5,000 or their results would be withheld.

"Many of us were in other cities for our training and were unaware of the development. We were not intimated. We got to know about it only in March, when the heads of various departments were sent a list of students who were yet to register for the programme," a PEC student stated.

The institute has a total of 350 third-year students in various departments.

A PEC spokesperson, when contacted, stated that the institute had formed a committee to look into the matter.

"It will be resolved soon," added the spokesman.
