The police here on Monday arrested a youth for allegedly raping a 14-year-old Dalit girl of his neighbourhood after he talked the minor into marrying him. The arrest came a day after the mother of the victim had filed a police complaint.

The arrest came a day after the mother of the victim had filed a police complaint. Superintendent of police Shashank Anand said the accused, identified as Ravi (20), a resident of Mangal Colony, was arrested from Hansu Majra village near Indri, Karnal district, and the minor girl was rescued as well.

The police have slapped a case of rape, kidnapping, compelling her to marry, SC/ST Act and other sections of the Indian Penal Code. The police also said the girl told the judicial magistrate that she knew the accused for the more than two years.

A daily-wager, Ravi had been living in a rented accommodation near to the victim's house.
