While Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa is holding meetings in Chandigarh with district and block presidents to mobilise crowds for the rally, former Punjab CM and Congress deputy leader in Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh is holding parallel meetings with sitting and former MLAs and office-bearers of the Jat Mahasabha in Delhi for the past two days.

Appealing for maximum participation in the kisan rally, he said the party would not allow the BJP-led NDA government to change the farmer-friendly land acquisition act to facilitate land grab by the corporate houses.

The Congress leaders and legislators, who were also present in a series of review meetings presided over by Amarinder, also assured him maximum participation in the rally from Punjab under his leadership, a spokesman of Amarinder here said.

Amarinder also lashed out at chief minister Parkash Singh Badal for the Shiromani Akali Dal’s “silence” on the land acquisition issue. He reiterated that Badal should use his influence with the NDA for the farmers’ welfare and not for his vested interests.
