At the function, attended by HC chief justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, sitting and retired judges, UT advisor KK Sharma and many advocates, justice Thakur said that all efforts were being made to fill up vacancies of judicial officers in all courts across the country, so that pendency of cases could be brought down.
Asked about the ongoing debate whether the death penalty should be done away with, justice Thakur replied that there have been two views on the question from the very beginning and the death penalty was being granted only in rarest of the rare cases.
Meanwhile, Kaul said that within a few months, appointment of more judges would be made in the high court.
