PGI sources reasoned that since many candidates might have availed of the gang's help to crack the exam and the institution had no mechanism to detect them, the test in all likelihood would be cancelled. More than 7,000 candidates had appeared in the exam.

When contacted, PGI spokesperson Manju Wadwalkar said on Monday, "We are waiting for the CBI to complete its inquiry. We will take the final decision only after its report."

On Sunday, the institute had announced "indefinite postponement" of declaration of results of the test. In normal circumstances, the results would have been declared a day after the exam.
