Coming down heavily on a Sector-35 based immigration consultancy firm for failing to honour commitment, the district consumer disputes redressal forum, Chandigarh, directed the immigration consultancy firm to pay Rs 40,000 as compensation for deficient services.
Disposing of the complaint filed Surya Prakash Saini, a resident of Sector 19, the consumer forum also directed the said firm, Canasia Immigration Consultancy Services Limited, to refund Rs 1.16 lakh with an interest of 9% along with Rs 11,000 as litigation cost.
“Since such type of complaints against the immigration consultancy services are on the rise and the gullible consumers make payment after arranging money by taking loan or selling their properties with the hope that they might get better employment opportunities in Canada.
Therefore, we feel the immigration consultancy services that harass such consumers should be dealt with heavy hands,” said the forum presided over by PL Ahuja on December 9.
Surya Prakash Saini had submitted an application for permanent residence in Canada under the arranged employment opinion in June 2013.
Saini claimed that as per the immigration consultancy service, it was to provide requisite services to locate an employer within six-eight months for him, but it failed to do so despite repeated visits by him.
Following this, Saini sought refund of the deposited amount of Rs 1.44 lakh along with interest, but to no avail.
Denying any deficiency, Canasia Immigration Consultancy Services Limited said that they had never promised to locate the employer, and approval, within six months.
The firm also said that the professional fee was not refundable.
