Maximum temperature drops below 40 deg C in Punjab, Haryana

The maximum temperatures on Monday dropped below 40 degrees Celsius in Punjab and Haryana, a day fter the region received light rains, giving relief to people from the searing heat wave conditions.

The maximum temperatures had for the first time this season crossed the 40 degree C mark in the two states on May 5.



Chandigarh today recorded a maximum temperature of 38.2 degree C, one notch below normal level, the MeT Department report said here.



In Haryana, Ambala's maximum settled two notches below normal at 38.2 degree C while Bhiwani's high temperature at 36.4 degree C was down by four notches.



Hisar, too, registered a three degrees below normal maximum at 38.5 degree C.



In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a maximum temperature of 39 degree C, down one notch.



Ludhiana at 38.5 degree C and Patiala 38.9 degree C recorded two notches below normal maximums, respectively.



The MeT has forecast that light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur at few places in Punjab and Haryana until tomorrow.
