MSc students protest against Panjab University (PU) authorities for rescheduling three exams, after one of the affiliated college conducted them before the date mentioned in the PU date sheet continued on day five, here on Thursday.
Sri Guru Gobind Singh (SGGS) Khalsa College, Mahilpur, Hoshiarpur had conducted the exams scheduled for May 22, May 27 and June 4 on May 21, May 25 and June 3, respectively. The college said they had gone by the old date sheet uploaded by PU on their website and failed to check the updated date sheet.
Now, as many as 210 students will undergo three re-examinations, scheduled for July 2, 5 and 8.
Students along with student leaders from different political parties demonstrated in front of the Vice Chancellor's (VC) office, but none of their demands have been accepted.
The students said, “We don't want to appear for the exams all over again, as it's not our fault if one of the colleges flouted the rules. Also, if the varsity had to reschedule the exam, they should at least give adequate time to us to prepare for the exam again.”
The PU authorities are in a fix, for if they don't re-schedule the exams, it would be against the norms, as SGGS Khalsa college has already conducted the exam. If the varsity gives more time to students it would mean delay in declaration of results and thus students might end up wasting an entire session, as admissions would be over by then.
PU has marked a probe into the matter after the goof-up was reported by HT on June 19, but no action has been taken in this regard, yet. As of now, the decision for re-examination remains.
