The SAD-BJP combine won the Dera Bassi seat as SAD candidate Narinder Sharma defeated Congress rebel Deepinder Singh Dhillon by 12,040 votes.

Except Dhillon, all seven candidates lost their security deposits.

The counting took place in 15 rounds at Government College, Dera Bassi. Sharma took the decisive lead of 11,023 votes in the first four rounds that remained difficult to beat. Though Dhillon fetched a lead of 2,269 votes in five rounds, it was not good enough.

Of the 1,41,669 votes polled, Sharma secured 63,285 votes, Dhillon 51,248 votes, Congress candidate Jasjit Randhawa 9,484 votes, independent candidate Manpreet Dolly 7,563 votes, BSP candidate Satish Sharma 5,333 votes, PPP candidate Bhagwant Baltana 2,793 votes, Jaswant Saini 886 votes, Maan Singh 841 votes and Gurjeet Singh polled 211 votes.

Later, Sharma along with his supporters carried out a victory march at Dera Bassi amid drumbeats.
The Congress not only ended a poor third but its candidate even lost his security for the first time from this seat.
