Nod to appointing Sarabjit Singh's daughter as naib tehsildar

The Punjab cabinet, at its meeting held here on Tuesday, cleared the appointment of Swapandeep Kaur, daughter of murdered Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, as naib tehsildar on compassionate grounds.

The cabinet also approved the appointment of Manjit Kaur, a widow, in the office of the Moga deputy commissioner on the same grounds.

Stating this here, a spokesperson for the chief minister's office said Swapandeep's father had succumbed to an attack in a Pakistan jail and had been subsequently declared a national martyr by the state government, while 11 members of Manjit Kaur's family had died in a road accident near Moga on May 6, 2012.
