Vigilance sleuths had arrested accused Shishpal Brar, a panchayat officer posted in Kharar sub-division, on Tuesday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

The accused was arrested on the complaint of Baljinder Singh, sarpanch of Popna village in Kharar.

In his complaint, Baljinder had alleged that a few villagers had filed a complaint against the sarpanch and panchayat secretary. He said Brar was the inquiry officer in the case and had demanded Rs 15,000 from the sarpanch for a "favourable report". The deal was struck at Rs 10,000 and the accused was caught red-handed from outside the block development officer's office in Kharar on Tuesday evening.
