After the PU syndicate gave its nod, vice-chancellor Arun Kumar Grover has now cleared the proposal which will allow teachers who have a PhD degree and have met at least one of the three conditions laid down by the varsity to become research guides.

The varsity was earlier mulling having research centres, which will have such faculty members who have fulfilled the criteria laid down by the university, in colleges which have met the university’s requirements. The move has been apprecaited by colleges. Dean University Instructions (DUI) AK Bhandhari said, “The changes have been made with the syndicate approval.

”While students will now be able to opt for PhDs in their colleges immediately pursuing their master’s degrees, PU has its hands full with PhD programmes on the campus.
