Skipper Rocky Ratta’s all-round show – 67 runs and three wickets – helped Haryana Heroes defeat fancied Punjab Panthers by 38 runs in the final of the Youth Premier League at the Sector-16 Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Batting first, the Heroes rode on Ratta’s splendid 67-run knock, inclusive of five fours and as many sixes, to post a formidable total of 153 runs for the loss of five wickets in their quota of stipulated 15 overs. Even as the skipper led from the front, another all-rounder Sumit Hooda rattled up unbeaten 41 to heap misery on the Panthers.
Facing a challenging target, Panthers innings never really took off, as they could only manage 115 for the loss of nine wickets in the given 15 overs. The losing side was mainly served by Mohammad Ali (25), Manoj (23) and Indraz (15).
The victory got Haryana Heroes a cash prize of `3 lakh, while runners-up Punjab Panthers took home `1.5 lakh. Ratta and Punjab Panthers skipper Bakhshish Singh shared ‘Man of the Series’ award. In the semifinals played earlier in the day, the Heroes had registered a comfortable five-wicket victory over Reva Tigers, while the Panthers had thrashed Delhi Dragons by 10 wickets.
