Members of Saini community has demanded Backward Class status for economic upliftment of their community by getting the benefits of reservation in government jobs and admissions in educational institutions.
A resolution to this effect was passed during the meeting of the various prominent personalities of the Saini Community of the state held at local Saini Bhawan on Sunday.
The Saini community members demanded that the Punjab government must implement the notification number 2/17/2002-RS5/198 dated February 20,2009,which provides inclusion of Saini community in the list of Backward Classes.
The notification was issued by the welfare department in 2009, just before the Lok Sabha elections. However, the government had kept the notification in abeyance following opposition by a section of the community at that time.
The delegates attending the meeting were of the view that the youth of the community would be able to get benefit of reservation in the government jobs and admission in the educational institutions.
It was also decided to sent memorandums to the Punjab Chief Minister deputy commissioners of all the districts of the state regarding the demand for the implementation of the notification.
The community members also decided to meet the chief minister in this regard.
The meeting was attended by president of District Congress Committee, Rupnagar, Harbhag Singh Saini, All India Rice Millers Association president Tarsem Saini, Saini Bhawan Managing Committee president Ajmer Singh, All India Saini Sewa Samaj Punjab president Harjit Singh Laungia, Balbir Singh and Pal Singh from Hoshiarpur,OP Saini and Ajit Singh from Patiala,Manjit Singh from Ludhiana,Pritam Saini from Jalandhar and Swaran Singh Laungia from Rajpura.
