Sangrur leads in wheat procurement

Government agencies and private millers have procured more than 75.70 lakh tonnes of wheat till Thursday evening as compared to 54.07 lakh tonnes on the corresponding day of last year.

Government agencies and private millers have procured more than 75.70 lakh tonnes of wheat till Thursday evening as compared to 54.07 lakh tonnes on the corresponding day of last year.

The maximum wheat has been lifted in Sangrur district (8.18 lakh tonnes), followed by Patiala (7.74 lakh tonnes) and Ludhiana (6.74 lakh tonnes).

An official spokesman said that of the total wheat procured in the state, private traders had lifted only 67,673 tonnes.

Pungrain has procured 13.5 lakh tonnes of wheat (17.8%), Markfed 16.8 lakh tonnes (22.2%), Punsup 15.7 lakh tonnes (20.8%), Punjab State Warehousing Corporation 8.8 lakh tonnes (11.6%) and PAIC 7.04 lakh tonnes (9.3%). The central government agency FCI has been able to procure 13 lakh tonnes of wheat (17.4%).

The state government has set up more than 1,750 procurement centres.
