Two convicted for possessing 46.5-kg charas

Additional district and sessions judge Shalini S Nagpal on Tuesday convicted two persons under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for possessing charas weighing about 46.5 kg.

The convicts have been identified as Pawan Kumar Bari, who hails from Rajasthan, and Delhi-resident Hans Raj alias Ashu. The quantum would be pronounced on Wednesday.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on March 28, 2011, had arrested the duo and recovered 46.5 kg of charas at a naka near Tribune chowk in Chandigarh. As per prosecution, the accused were on their way to Chandigarh from Delhi for delivering the consignment to a client in the city.

The NCB team had set up the naka on a tip-off and on searching a Honda City car the team had recovered the contraband. The NCB team had found charas in 25 packets hidden in the back seat of the car, which was being driven by Bari.
