UT deputy commissioner (DC) Mohammed Shayin had suspended the licence of both multiplexes on the charges of selling movie tickets below the rate fixed by the UT administration.

The PVR management had appealed for revoking the suspension which was heard by the deputy commissioner, who is also the licensing authority.

The shows at both multiplexes resumed in the afternoon after the management received formal orders from the DC office.

The UT administration had increased the rates of movie tickets in July from 15% to 20% in different categories. The order was for all multiplexes in the city, however, the PVR management allegedly did not comply with it. The PVR management had given an advertisement in the newspapers on September 6 announcing that they would be selling tickets at `75 on every Thursday.

The administration had given the management of PVR Cinemas an opportunity to clarify its stand regarding floating of the rates, which it failed.
