Voluntary demolitions continue at Kalka

The status quo granted till February 10 by the Supreme Court of India notwithstanding, many Kalka people continued to voluntarily demolish their shops for the third consecutive day.

The status quo granted till February 10 by the Supreme Court of India notwithstanding, many Kalka people on Tuesday continued to voluntarily demolish their shops for the third consecutive day.

Many of the 242 shopkeepers who have received eviction notice from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) have shifted their goods under duress.

The shopkeepers greeted Bhagat Singh, one of the applicants who had moved the Supreme Court against the demolition drive and secured status quo, with honour today upon his return to Kalka from New Delhi. DC R.K. Kataria today reviewed the construction of the 29.6-km Pinjore-Parwanoo bypass.
