A traffic police constable was hit by a car at the Matka roundabout on Sunday evening, after he signalled the car driver, who was speaking on the mobile, a violation of the law, to stop.
Instead of stopping, the accused, identified as Aftab Singh Gill, a resident of SAS Nagar, tried to flee and hit the cop, Davinder Singh.
The cop was dragged on the bonnet of the car for around 1 km. The police control room (PCR) van chased the accused and managed to arrest him.
The cop was rushed to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16.
A case under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 506 (intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Sector-3 police station.
Another Cop hit by rashly-driven car
In another incident, sub-inspector Tajinder Singh suffered injuries after being hit by a rashly-driven car near Sector 47. The accused has been identified as Gurjant Singh, who was driving an Innova.
The victim was on his way back home on a scooter when the incident took place. He was rushed to the hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.
A case for rash driving and causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others has been registered at Sector-39 police station. The accused was arrested and later released on bail. On July 4, another cop was injured in a similar case.
